All the greatest teachers used stories to pass wisdom from generation to generation, leaving us with a huge wealth of fantastic tales, some to inspire, some to teach and some just to entertain. These stories and the telling of them can enrich the learning experience of every student, regardless of their place on the learning spectrum.
As a Times Educational Supplement content provider my stories are watched and listened to in classrooms across the country. But the magic created in a live performance can stay with a child for life.
Below are a list of options for performance storytelling sessions currently available. These are flexible and each session can be tweaked to suit your school’s needs.
Traditional Tales: – Drawing on the tales told by the tell-tellers of old I breathe fresh life into classic tales, some you’ll know, some you won’t. But all are picked for their suitability and relevance to the audience.
30mins/ 1hour KS1 /KS2 (30 mins max telling for years 1 and 2)
Tales From Around the World: – Having returned from a backpacking adventure my sack is filled with stories from different cultures to share with audiences. Bringing them to life through performance storytelling the tales are filled with universal wisdom and cultural richness.
30mins/ 1 hour KS1/ KS2
Fairy Tales:- The Grimm’s collected fantastical stories from all over Europe many of which are imbued with that very special magic that makes them Fairy Tales. Re-moulding these stories, from the Grimm’s and others, but keeping that essence of what makes them wonderful, I bring my favourites to life, some you’ll know, some you won’t.
30mins/ 1 hour KS1/KS2
Blackbeard’s Chest: – A pirate adventure bringing the legends of famous pirates Anne Bonny, Stede Bonnet, Mary Read, Calico Jack and Blackbeard to life through the eyes of a young boy who thinks he knows an awful lot about priates. 45 mins – Years 4-6.
Greek Mythology: – The Greek myths offer some of the most famous and fantastical tales ever told. With humour and warmth I bring these stories to life in the way they would have been told to young Greeks, through the oral tradition.
1 hour – KS2
Greek Myths of the Zodiac: – Plucking tales from the stars, a cornucopia of myths that are filled with Gods, heroes, monsters and lessons. A session that covers the breadth of tales in Greek mythology.
45mins-1hour KS2
