Story Map – The Dragon’s Descent – Ha Long Bay

Many moons ago when Vietnam was only just becoming a country the people were threatened by invaders. But the Gods sent from the heavens a family of dragons to protect them. These dragons descended to where the ships were advancing on Vietnam and they spat pearls and jade at the ships. When these precious gems hit the water they instantly turned into huge islands that protected the country from any future armies. The place where this happened is called Ha Long Bay, meaning descending dragon, and it is said that the dragons likes the area so much for its calm and beautiful waters that they stayed there, and they live there still.
